My name is Bell Ramos. I am a fantasy author, a storyteller, and an observer of the beautiful, often messy "paradoxes" that make up our daily lives.

Why "Unscripted Paradox"?

Living as an expat in Honduras, I’ve learned that life rarely follows a script. There is a constant push and pull between the familiar and the new, the quiet moments of writing and the vibrant, crowded energy of Central American culture. This blog is where those two worlds meet.

We are taught from the schoolyard onward that the best thing a woman can be is small. We are told to keep our voices low, our opinions polite, and our bodies tucked neatly into the background. For so many of us, the scale becomes a moral compass, and a lower number is treated like a badge of good citizenship. We track every macro, count every calorie, and measure our worth by what we can successfully eliminate from our lives. But what happens when you step entirely outside of that room? There is a specific kind of atmospheric pressure that comes with growing up in the United States as an overweight girl, a heavy, omnipresent cultural expectation that your primary job in life is to take up as little space as possible. For decades, that narrative followed me like a shadow. I vividly remember the stinging barbs of playground bullies, the sidelong glances from adults who mistook a child’s physical frame for a moral failure, and the well-intentioned, yet deeply wounding words of my own grandmother.
