The Long Road Home: What All That "Walking" Taught Me

We’ve all done a lot of miles, haven't we? If the soundtrack of our lives is any indication, we’ve been "walking" since the day we could reach the radio dial.

From the stiff-armed fun of walking like an Egyptian to the defiant confidence of walking on sunshine, music has always given us a rhythm for our journey. But lately, I’ve been thinking about what happens when the music slows down, and those miles start to catch up with us.

Finding Your Own Rhythm

When we were younger, "walking the line" or "walking this way" felt like following a script. We were learning the steps, trying to keep up with the trends, and figuring out where we fit in. But as time goes on, the "walking" becomes less about the performance and more about the intention.

Much like following a complicated crochet pattern or perfecting a family recipe, life isn't about how fast you move; it’s about the quality of the stitches and the depth of the flavor.

The Power of a Rest Stop

The meme is right: I’m tired. And honestly? That’s okay.

In a world that demands we constantly "walk on the wild side," there is immense power in simply sitting down. My grandmother understood this perfectly. Whether she was sitting in her favorite chair with her yarn or standing over a simmering pot of sauce, she wasn't rushing to the next thing. She was present. She knew that the best work and the best lives are built in the quiet moments between the big steps.

Lessons from the Path

Here is what I’ve learned from all those miles:

  • It’s okay to change your gait: Some days you moonwalk, and some days you just limp along. Both get you where you're going.

  • The "Wild Side" is overrated: Sometimes the most "wild" thing you can do is set a boundary and protect your peace.

  • The music never really stops: Even when you’re tired, the melody of those old songs stays with you, reminding you of how far you’ve actually come.

We’ve walked a lot, and we’ve earned the right to put our feet up. The wisdom isn't just in the walking; it’s in knowing when you've reached a place worth staying.

Catch you in the next one,
