Weaving Reality: The Heart Behind the Chronicles of The Between

The world is changing faster than we can "Render" it.

If you had told me years ago that I’d be writing a YA trilogy about digital wireframes, system reboots, and the "Grey" of social technology, I might have thought you were speaking a different language. Growing up, technology was a tool we picked up and put down; today, it’s the very atmosphere we breathe. It’s the invisible mesh that connects our social lives, our work, and our identities. And while technology is a brilliant gift that allows us to build incredible things, I’ve often felt a lingering "Lag", a sense that it’s all too easy to lose our "Saturation" in the process. We let the screens replace the soul, and before we know it, our world starts to look a little low-poly.

That tension is exactly what inspired the Chronicles of The Between. But the true "Source Code" of this story isn't found in a server farm or a motherboard. It’s found in the quiet corners of my home. It’s family.

The Real Architect and the Real Mika

Many of you have asked about the inspiration for Kari. To be honest, Kari is a direct reflection of my daughter. Just like the character in the books, she has that unique, sometimes overwhelming ability to see the world in high-definition. She notices the tiny "Glitches" in people’s moods and the subtle "Color-Shifts" in a room's atmosphere. Watching her navigate her own world inspired me to write a character who doesn't just use creativity as an escape from social anxiety, but as a bridge to something deeper.

And then, there’s Mika.

In the books, Mika is a powerful guardian lynx with glowing patches and a roar that can shatter "Optimization-Filters." In our living room, Mika is... well, Mika. She is my daughter’s stunning calico cat, and their bond is the ultimate "Anchor Point" of our household. It’s a beautiful thing to witness: my daughter treats Mika like her baby, providing a level of nurture that is truly "Structural," and Mika acts as if my daughter were her mother, following her from room to room as if they were linked by an invisible tether.

That unconditional love became the blueprint for the "Tether" logic in the series. When Kari enters the Labyrinth and feels the "Grey-sickness" trying to compress her identity, it’s that memory of a purr, a low-frequency system check, that brings her back to herself. It reminded me that no matter how digital our lives become, we need those physical, tactile reminders that we are real, solid, and loved.

Mind Over Matter: A Framework for the Digital Age

Writing this series was a personal journey in the Mind over Matter framework. We live in an age where it is incredibly easy to feel "Optimized" or "Rounded-Down" by algorithms and the pressure of social "Engagement Orbs." We often feel like victims of our environment, catching the "Grey-sickness" of fatigue and disconnection.

But the message I wanted to share through Kari is that our mindset is the ultimate hardware. In the books, "Mind over Matter" isn't about ignoring the "Matter", the pain, the anxiety, or the difficulty. It’s about realizing that the "Mind" has the power to define how that "Matter" is rendered. It’s about shifting our perspective from fighting the void to filling it with sincerity.

I’ve learned that when life feels like it’s de-rendering into a grey wireframe, the solution isn't to log out, but to "Re-Sync" with what makes us human. We have to fight our way back to a place where we are not so dependent on the digital "Standard," and more rooted in the "High-Resolution" moments of real life, the ones that are messy, unpredictable, and full of friction.

The Analog-Grit of Crochet and Cooking

To represent this "Human-Layer," I leaned heavily into metaphors like crochet and cooking. These aren't just hobbies in the books; they are "Legacy-Tools" for survival. My grandmother didn't have a tablet, but she was an Architect of the highest order. She knew how to "Hold the Tension" of a single stitch. She understood that a masterpiece isn't built with a single click; it’s woven with intent, row by row, loop by loop.

When Kari finds herself in the "Root Directory" of Honduras in Book 3, she discovers that her heritage is her strongest processor. The "Structural Logic" of her mother’s kitchen and the "Earth-Stability" of her father’s garden are the two needles she needs to weave the "Golden Thread." I wanted to show that the "Analog-Grit" of our ancestors, the recipes that take hours to compile and the blankets that take months to stitch, is the only thing that can stabilize a collapsing digital universe.

Technology should be the canvas, never the painter. We have to be the ones holding the brush, the spatula, or the crochet hook. We have to be the ones who decide which colors belong in our sky.

The Final Compile

As we wrap up this three-book journey, my hope is that readers walk away feeling empowered. I want them to see that being "in-between" isn't a glitch in the system. Whether you’re balancing two different cultures, two different languages, or just trying to balance your digital persona with your real soul, your unique "Texture" is what makes you a masterpiece.

Kari’s journey from the "Kingdom of Shards" to the "Eternal Render" is a reminder that we are all "Work-in-Progress" files. We might drop a stitch occasionally, and our resolution might flicker when things get difficult, but as long as we maintain our "Sincerity-Levels," we can always re-render our reality.

Thank you for being part of this "Infinite-Compile" with me. It has been a joy to weave these lessons of family, heritage, and "Mind over Matter" into a story for you and your families.

Let's keep the resolution high and the heart even higher.
